Slice Graphics in assemblies that will slice all parts

We need the option to slice all components inside an assembly when editing a part or sketch, so that there is less clutter. Then also be able to set the distance, that would be nice. I understand that this is where isolate comes in, but a click of a button makes life a lot easier, instead of three...or six...

I'm not sure i understand you.

When you want to slice a part or assembly you can use the half section view in the ribbon view, or you can press f7 whilst in a sketch to slice the graphic on the sketch plane.

Or do you mean something different? I don't get it.

I think what Paul is talking about is when you're editing a Part "In Place", i.e. within the context of its Parent assembly.

This is a great idea. I've run into this before as well; you're chugging along editing your Part in-place, you create a new Sketch or go to modify one, then you do "slice graphics".... and your view is still horribly cluttered by "junk" form your parent assembly.

It would be great if Slice Graphics acted on the surrounding assembly components as requested. It might also be great if, when editing a Part in-place, we had a command that wold temporarily hide objects from the parent assembly and just show the component being worked on.

I do believe that the isolate function does just that, but the simpler the better. You know, i could isolate the part or subassembly and do just that, but that is pretty cumbersome and could be pretty simple.... running back to the sleek design - i like to focus on the product not the software.... thanks.

Well, another problem with Isolate is when you Isolate, you un-associate all of your associative View Reps. You also lose any other carefully-set-up View Rep settings and overrides. And you can't just undo your Isolate. You can do so immediately after your isolate, but you can't if you isolate and then do other things. There's not a straight-up "undo isolate" command, so you can't get back to your previous View Rep setup without doing so manually, which is a HUGE pain.

There's an existing idea for that first problem (losing associativity) here: Maintain Design View Representation when turning Part Visibility on/off.

Unfortunately, there's not one for the second problem yet. I suppose this one would be it: Isolate toggle command. As long as the first problem were fixed, this functionality would work perfectly.

But even still, this is sort of a separate issue. If I were editing a sub-assembly in-place, I would like to be able to hide its parent assembly objects. "Isolate" would only allow me to isolate a sub-component of my sub-assembly, not my sub-assembly itself. There would need to be a dedicated function for hiding all parent objects while editing-in-place.
