Select all parts and sub-assemblies within an assembly

there should be a way to easily select all parts and sub-assemblies within an assembly with out selecting any component patterns them selves. As stupidly there is no way to link all the same view reps in one hit. So if i can select everything i can just right click and change them all in one hit but as you can not change view rep on a pattern and when using component priority and windowing everything it selects the patterns as well and not what is inside it so does not work. if i do it from browser i have the same issue so will have to do it with some code instead. Stupid!

Great post. This brings up a couple of really annoying issues with Inventor selection:

1. The "Component" selection filter should really be called "Top-level" or something like that. It doesn't select Components, it selects whatever the browser node is that you're hovering over. If that's a pattern, it selects the whole pattern. This is annoying. We should have two separate filters for this -- one for true "Component" selection, which will actually only select Components (Parts and Assemblies), and one for "Top-level" selection, in case for some reason we wanted to select a Pattern from the graphics window, which is unlikely.
2. When you use RMB --> Selection --> Select All Occurrences, if you then select something which also exists inside of a Pattern, and is the only component inside that pattern, Inventor will select the Pattern rather than all of the instances of the component in the Pattern. Which means you can't change their View Reps. This is extremely frustrating and makes no sense, and needs to be fixed.
