Reorder Work Features and Component Patterns in Assembly browser
I can not drag/reorder Work Features and Component Patterns in the assembly browser. I see no reason why this is not possible. Please fix this, thank you.
@imbulegama.charith reordering pattern in browser & folder works fine in Inventor 2022 now, and we are invesigating the idea on work feature reordering now. Thanks!
As a newish user to inventor I am amazed the ability to move work features in the assembly is not possible. This has been available in rival software for 20+ years!. The ability to move browser items around is fundamental to tidying up assemblies once complete (subject to not breaking hierarchy rules). It is not always possible to know what is needed on large assemblies at the start of the build and having the work features located together makes navigating much easier.
@martin.richardsonQQKMT if one work feature depends on another historically, you can't just commute their order as you fancy. Simply because the previous one may give reference to the next one below. The principle is the same in the case of other 3D packages such as Solidworks.
@Andrew2803 I believev @martin.richardsonQQKMT is talking about ASSEMBLY work features and they don't have the same parametric dependencies as part work features as you describe.
I won't go into the history of why/how but I encourage you to look at the 2023.2 beta perhaps 🙂
Creo has had this ability since it first started: all parts features, datums may move up and down a tree, but not above a parent item used in its creation. Creo is very Strict about the order children may not go above parents so has less freedom to move parts in an assembly.
A plane and axis from the start of a tree used to make a new angular plane has no relation ship to parts already assembled between the start planes / axis’s and the new plane. Thus a new plane following these rules should be allowed to be moved up the tree as it would not break the rules as its parents are at the top of the tree.
An observation, which shows the plane is not breaking the rules. After another part is assembled below a newly created plane then you can drag other earlier assembled items below the newly plane thus moving the plane up the tree and back again, unfortunately only one at time. To me this shows there is a bit of programming missing from the planes. However this is laborious when you have 40 or 50 or more parts.
Why tidy planes & other work features? To make them easy to locate when assembly additional parts and when an assembly goes into another assembly I like to keep my tree logical for future work and don’t like planes that are use more than once as they become hard to find.
I read from another post response that maybe something is coming in the future, lets hope so.
This idea has been implemented within Autodesk Inventor 2023.2. Please review the Inventor 2023.2 What's New article here, for more information regarding how you may reorder work features. Special thanks to everyone who cast a vote for it.
