Remember PDF export settings

Remember PDF export settings

I would like Inventor to remembered PDF export settings. For example Print Range> All sheets...

Great idea. We constantly need to select "Remove object line weights" when exporting drawings to PDF's.

In addition, "All sheets" option would better be the default setting.

Please Autodesk, this would be a boon to me not having to redo sets of drawings just because I forgot to go and select "all sheets" let's have it as the default setting, after all it's not like we are wasting paper! Another important issue is that all sheets for that drawing would then be updated in the client PDF file if you where keeping old revision sheets this would avoid a site mixup.

Agreed.  While we're at it, let's have a real PDF exporter that doesn't botch up the fonts and line weights.  I'm getting tired of having to print everything through a PDF print driver.  (Autodesk, refer to my case ID 10377289.)

This has been asked for by many people, and remains unimplemented, for years. For instance, here's a post to the Ideastation from years ago, that was "accepted."

It must be very difficult code to implement.

When will this be implemented?????????

This is implemented within Inventor 2017

I would much prefer that after we hit "Export -> PDF", it brought up the settings dialog first, just like when you're printing, so I can set all my options, and then the "OK" button would say "Save" instead, and when I click it, it then lets me chose the save location.

To me, the current operation is backwards from just about every other Windows print/export function. Settings first, then save location. That's how it should be. Safer, faster, and more streamlined.

Also, we need the actually useful version of a page selector like shown below, not the extremely limited and frustrating selector we have now.

This idea has been implemented within Autodesk Inventor 2018. Special thanks to everyone who cast a vote for it.

There is a flaw in the new export. It should have an option to export all sheets as a PERMANENT default. Currently if you export a idw with 3 sheets and set it to all sheets it will save the setting between idw's. If you open a single sheet and export it then export a multi sheet idw you have to reset it to all sheets.

Hello @shawn.payne,

As implemented, the setting honors the last used setting.  I see that in your cited example, this presents a problem.  We chose not to deliver this option as a permanent setting within the application options as we have received feedback from other customers that too many App options are not desired.  The sentiment was too many settings over-complicate Inventor and often times reflect niche workflows.  At this point the best thing I can suggest is to author a new idea for an app option for this specific control.  If our public customer base agrees (with significant votes), we can entertain implementing one.  I am sorry to not have a better answer for you.  Regards,

The problem with the current implementation is this:

If we export a drawing with a single sheet, Inventor defaults to "Current Sheet" with the "All Sheets" option grayed out. Then, from then on "Current Sheet" is remembered as the last-used setting! Even if "All Sheets" was the default beforehand, "Current Sheet" will be used for the next Export even if the drawing has more than one sheet!

How it needs to work:

Even if we're exporting a drawing with a single sheet, the "All Sheets" option needs to be selectable! This way it will continue to be remembered as the last-used setting even if we happen to export a drawing that happens to only have one sheet!

We don't need a new application option to fix this. We just need the dialog to stop being silly and disallowing "All Sheets" just because there isn't more than one sheet.

In addition to fixing that, those options REALLY need to just be moved to the main "Save As" panel (or pop up before it, just like most PDF printers -- choose export options, say Okay, THEN choose save location) so we can stop losing time to these options being wrong on half of our exports.

Here's a related idea proposing the ability to save page setups per drawing (similar to AutoCAD -- although hopefully much better): can not save the print settings.

@jeanie.wayker 2018 does not work very good. If you go from a multi sheet idw to a single sheet idw and then back to a multi sheet idw, inventor does not keep the setting to export all sheets. I still have to open that dialog box EVERY time I export a pdf and its quite annoying. I would like to be able to set it to export ALL SHEETS permanently. If you only have one sheet then all sheets still applies.

@shawn.payne @DRoam This bad behavior with losing the all sheets selection when opening a single sheet IDW was logged as a defect and we have fixed it in our 2019 code base. I will have the team assess the risk of putting this into 2018.3 as well. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Having the fix in 2018 would be great, but I'm glad one is coming, even if only in v2019. Thank you!

I hope this fix gets applied to 2018. My company and I'm sure others will most likely be skipping 2019 or waiting to implement after bugs are worked out.
