Provide Education for Major Changes

Provide Education for Major Changes

We use Inventor to build models of our structures to create drawings that our engineers use to check structural integrity, our crews use to build the structure, and our customers know what they are buying. Level of Detail and View Reps are very important for creating comprehensive and understandable drawings. AutoDesk has replaced LODs with Model States. I have a feeling to Model States will be an improvement over LODs, however I do not have the time to spend trying to figure out Model States.

I think that if AutoDesk makes a major change, like replacing LODs with Model States, they should also provide documentation and education other than 'What's new in Inventor 2022' about that change.

Please provide documentation and education for Model States.

Hello,

The What's New section has links to the help topics that have overview and step-by-step instructions in the For more information link in the What's New topic which takes you here:

Regarding training for new features, we try to create a guided tutorial for major feature and workflow changes such as model states. There are 2 guided tutorials for model states to help you get started. One for parts and one for assemblies. You can find them in the Get Started tab > Tutorial Gallery. Set you gallery filters to All Available and Most Recent.

The biggest difference between LOD's and Model States is that each model state can impact the iProperties and BOM, while LOD's were strictly intended as a memory management tool. Model States are very similar to iParts and iAssemblies except that all the recipes are in one file. To mimic the old LOD workflow that did not impact the BOM, you can use Visibility states in View Reps. Invisible components in View Reps provide memory savings similar to LOD component suppression.

I hope that helps.

Regards,

Paul

@Paul.NormandThis Screencast  illustrates the issue I'm having creating drawings. From what I can tell from the tutorial, I need to create a separate Model State for every 'view' I'm trying to show in my drawings. Right now, at least I can choose one View Rep and one LOD to create a view.

Can I get the same result by choosing one Model State and one View Rep?

I think '9. Optionally, edit the iProperties to assign unique attributes.' might help me, but there doesn't seem to be any further information about how that works.

Thank you.
