Years ago, perhaps 10, when I was working on the Global BOM project, this came up in passing but was deemed as too expensive at the time for development.
What I think would really add functionality would be to take the components listed in an Excel or database file, and populate an Inventor Assembly. The first one in the list would be located as 'Place Grounded at Origin', the remainder would be situated on that spot as well, unless there were a setting for iMates as well. The user can then move/hide components as needed to locate & configure the assembly as a whole.
