While adding multiple constraints you are guaranteed to place the wrong constraint. I propose to add a keyboard shortcut, such as TAB to switch between mate & flush constraint when the two components are selected.
Inventor allows customized keyboard shortcuts to many functions, unfortunately there are no separate shortcuts available for each constraint type. If Autodesk put those in then each constraint type could assigned a key in the assembly environment.
I like this idea, but while you think "Tab" should toggle between solutions, someone else might think it should toggle between the constraint types (mate, angle, insert, etc.), and someone else might think it should toggle between selections (Selection 1 vs. Selection 2). Not to mention the fact that Tab already has a job within the Constraint dialog (and every other dialog), which is to sequentially jump between controls in the dialog.
In that light, maybe it would be better to assign an "Access key" to each toggle. Access keys are those underlined letters that you sometimes see on controls in dialogs (for example, you can see them if you hold down the Alt key on the Application Options "Drawing" tab). Access keys take you straight to the control if you hold down the Alt key and press the underlined access key.
So maybe the keys could be "T" for type, "S" for selections, and "O" for solution. Pressing Alt+T would toggle between types, Alt+S would toggle between selections, and Alt+O would toggle between solutions.
The nice thing about access keys (in addition to the fact that you can have several of them) is that you can easily discover what the access key is for a control just by holding down the Alt key. So while they're not customizable, they're versatile, easily discoverable, and fast.
Hotkey for toggling between mate & flush is a great idea, it'll be saving a load of clicks and cursor travel time. Please get this one rolled out as soon as possible. Thanks in advance
Sounds like a great idea, the constraint tool is one of my frustrations moving from solidworks, which can predict mate type based on geometry pretty well, as well as suggesting several options, and it doesn't break if you try and mate something "backwards" - it just picks the closest alignment to what you already have (graphically), and then you can flip this (can't remember if there is a hotkey for this in SW).
But anyway, I think this would be a helpful simple feature to implement, probably with the amendment suggested by DRoam.
