Option for a Sheet Format to delete the left over sheet

Option for a Sheet Format to delete the left over sheet

When using a sheet format in a new drawing, it inserts the combination of Border and Title Block in to a new sheet within the IDW file.

This leaves behind the original blank sheet which then throws off your sheet count.

I feel this could be addressed in two different ways.

  1. Give the user the option to have the Sheet Format edit and place the Border and Title Block in the original blank first sheet
  2. Give the user the option to delete the blank original sheet when using a Sheet Format on a file for the first time (when the blank sheet exists)

Please do not post the solution as being an iLogic method. I would like this to be a core function of the software.

I think an Apply to Current Sheet option would be a better solution to this.

Right click on the Sheet Format you want and choose Apply to Current Sheet.

IMOP, I don't use Sheet Formats, I have just learned to use iLogic to control all of my resources but I completely agree this would be a nice little touch.

I agree with the "Apply to current sheet"!

Meanwhile, I had the same problem and solved it with some iLogic.

take a look and see if help.

OK so I totally understand that we can do what I am asking with our unique iLogic but, as I said in my first post, I am looking for this to be a core function for how IV works right out of the box.

This would be nice, I suppose, but it's really not very difficult to delete the blank sheet, is it?  I agree that you don't want the blank sheet left in there to mess up your sheet count, but right click > Delete Sheet is pretty quick and painless, unless you're doing this on every new drawing?

sbixler,

I agree that it is super easy to delete the original sheet, but I think what the OP is going for is easier for everyone and for those without iLogic knowledge to make the Sheet Format the active one.

Personally, I use a form when I open a drawing that chooses sheet size, border, tb, the works.  This doesn;t affect most of the comment posters on this topic, but think of Joe Blow just learning and having to do these extra steps each time.  I get it, but its a small change.

Hi, Mark,

That's my question: is this something that many users need to do every time they start a new drawing?  If so, then it's important, but wouldn't it be better to have a template or two or three set up with the correct format(s) to begin with?

We, too, use a form, which allows the user to select the sheet size, then places the correct border and TB.  Big productivity enhancer, for sure.

Sam,

It would be helpful.  I can't tell you how many clients I visit that have A, B, C, D templates.  I am very much against that as I see it as an AutoCAD transitional thinking.  You should IMOP never have the same drawing and have A, B, C, D templates with the same resources in it.  Thats just too much updating when a change is needed to the template and doesn't solve any problem at all when you open a B and decide you need a D instead after placing some initial views.  To novices and those without an iLogic "guy" at the company this would save clicks but maybe only as many clicks in a given year equal to the amount of keystrokes I just used up typing these many responses.

For me, different templates are for different purposes... tech editing, manufacture, quoting, literature, etc.
