New Feature Sweep solid

Hi Autodesk,

Now we have Autodesk Inventor HSM, it will be nice to have a new feature that sweeps a solid allong a path.

When you use a profile milling it is hard to design the result.

But when you simulate it within Inventor HSM, you see how the results look.

So please make a feature to design easier results like this.

Cut-sweep using a tool body and path

Used for end mill simulation. The ability to control twist & path alignment should be included.

Completely agree with this idea. It would be very usefull especially for the cutting tool design and modelling of the exit area of the cutting tool on the blank. Currently it is not possible to continuously model the flute exit on the shank side of the drill or mill. I suggest the command should be capable of sweeping and twisting any body (also with the G0 connection between surfaces) along any G1 or G2 continuos path.
It would be great improvement of the Inventor design capabilities.

This kind of ties in the the request for Sweep with twist, AutoCAD does it, the ASM kernel does it, it just isn't exposed to Inventor

This is an enhancement, that could be used in development of bottle screw feeders or similar tasks.

With state-of-the-art, Inventor can't handle this with good results.

- In added sample, switch Body2 invisible

- Now you can see 3DSketch1 and 3DSketch2

- Workplane1 is placed through both ends and the midpoint of 3DSketch2

- Sketch3 is the projection of 3DSketch2 towards Workplane1

- SweepSurface1 is the sweep of Sketch3 along 3DSketch1

Now try to sweep 3DSketch2 along 3DSketch1. You can't do so.

But that's what we need. Much more preferred than small UI changes.

I would like to modify/add to this request the ability to sweep (specifically sweep-subract) a solid through another solid.  This is how metalworking tools function and not having the ability to model these at the moment (I can get close with workarounds, but not right on) is a bit of a hinderance.

Sweep a tool body along a path such as in 4-axis CNC machining. The body could be a cylinder (with or without a fillet radius).

Any Inventor workflow at present, is an  approximation.

I don't know what version of Inventor you are using but the sweep along surface command works pretty well for this.

No it doesn't , it only produces an approximation. Any Cnc programmer will tell you that.

It would be nice to have the ability to create features using 3D solids and not limited to 2D sketches.  Perhaps with HSM Works we can have a CNC tool along side Extrude and Revolve.

I know what you mean.

I've posted a same issue when milling with a profile milling tool.

The results are hard to engineer while Autodesk Inventor HSM gives the result when milling.

It would seem users have gravitated to an identical Idea (authored after this one) that includes imagry.  I am modifying the status of this Idea as duplicate and tracking the other Idea as the Master (as it currently has over 100 kudos).  The Master Idea can be viewed here:
