Model States Improvement - Make BOM Structure Independent

Model States Improvement - Make BOM Structure Independent

I am currently using Inventor 2022, so I do not know if this has been addressed in future releases, but here goes:

It would be nice if you can set BOM Structure for a subassembly and a model state of that subassembly independently. Perhaps this could be toggled from a checkbox so that users can change BOM structure dependent on the file name, or dependent on the Model State.

To clarify, currently BOM structure is set at the document level. If Assembly A is placed in Assembly B and also in Assembly C, and then in the BOM for Assembly B I change Assembly A to "Phantom", Assembly A will also change to phantom in Assembly C.

So what I would like is for the document property that stores the BOM structure to be instance based (similar to how iProperties are), so that one model state can have phantom BOM structure while another model state has Normal BOM Structure.

That way, you could place a child assembly in one parent as phantom, and then place it in another parent as normal, for example.

This for posting this. It would be very helpful if you could elaborate what problem you feel your proposed solution will address so we can be sure to fully support it in the future.
thanks in advance.

@herzogh   No sure if my reasons for wanting this are the same as @Matthew_Policelli .

But the issue this would solve for me  is:

I have one drawing that will  have 3 separate BOMs on it to show 3 versions (model states) of the same product.

Because the BOM is not independent for each model state, if you have a part / assy with a different model state shown in each of the BOMs, when you open up the BOM for the second model sate it puts the suppressed model sates to the bottom of the BOM messing up the BOM order in the first model state.
