Since IPN are needed for exploded assembly drawings. To have the ability to change the model state in the IPN representation would be great. Especially since any old IPN files that are upgraded, default to the master model state. I don't want it to default to the master model state without the ability to change to a different model state.

In the mean time, I have discovered a work-around. it requires planning ahead, and you cannot change the LOD once the scene is created.
When selecting the assembly to make a scene, select "options" and choose the LOD you want. Then the scene will only reference that LOD. Helpful, but if you need to change your LOD after, you are out of luck.
The added functionality should also be able to use multiple scenes to drive on BOM on a drawing. It would also be more straightforward if the exploded views were saved instances in the assembly instead of having to make separate IPN's. What's almost impossible to do in Inventor (Multiple exploded views on one drawing reporting to a single BOM) can be completed in 5 minutes with Solid Works.
@mickhall64 You can create multiple scenes in a single IPN. Inventor does not use the IPN to drive the BOM, but rather the view representation in the assembly.

The lack of availability in presentations carries over into the drawing environment, where you have manually manipulate assemblies (turning on/off visibility of parts/sub-assy's and such) to show parts as desired.
I am not sure how long "Voting" for desired changes/features has been around, but i only stumbled upon it a day or two ago. I am hoping it is relatively new, for I believe the 29 votes currently in for this item extremely low. Maybe most users just don't know it is available.
I really wish this would be added to Inventor, the ability to switch Representations after you have already created an exploded view would be really valuable. Otherwise if you later decide to create a LOD for example and want to the IPN to reflect this visually, you need to completely rebuild.
@jesscadd many thanks for you sharing the idea with us! When editing scene of IPN, LOD or model state can't be changed, which is a legacy behavior. We migrate the legacy IPN with LOD selected to Inventor 2022, the LOD will be migrated to model state which is used for IPN, and it works with my testing. There is only one situation, and LOD "Suppress All CC parts" used for IPN. This will be switched to master model state when migrating to Inventor 2022. In Inventor 2022, the "Suppress All CC Parts" LOD will be migrated to design view "Hide all CC parts".
Thank you for the response. I understand you are matching legacy behavior. But Model States is a new feature, allow the user to have better functionality and not hamstring it with old processes. To be able to use the Model States with existing IPN files requires the existing scenes to be deleted and rebuilt from scratch. That is huge roadblock for existing designs as well as copying existing designs.
