Thanks for your feedback, could you elaborate on the requirement why you need it? Let us know the trouble you have encountered without the Model States that have all components unsuppressed.
The problem we have seen is when a user accidentally suppress parts in a large complex assembly and is standing in the Model State Master while this is done. It is crucial for the end BOM list, that you have all the parts unsuppressed after you are done with your task. But if you accidently suppress parts randomly you have no help making sure that you can get back to a Model State were you have no parts suppressed. This is of course only a problem in large assemblies..... e.g. parts/sub assemblies organized in folders. If there is a workflow where you can go to a state where no parts are suppressed, this would be fine.
Our local CAD reseller is working on an addition to the Inventor tools we already have from them. It will be a “suppression checker” tool that will go through the .iam and present all suppressed files. Then the user can choose what to unsuppress or choose to unsuppress all. I saw it today for the first time and it is working. It is hard to say if there is a downside, but a least it is good to be able to see a list.
In all fairness the Model states has been long awaited, and all users had the opportunity to test this solution. I just don’t think anyone focused (or had the imagination to test) on the behaviour of the Model State Master.
Model states are a great idea and one I was looking forward to. But it is a major change and should have been fully tested before being forced on end users.
The way I see it the community shouldn't be debugging software, unless there is bounties involved.
Our CAD reseller has added a function to their Tool.... Tick Tool Basic. This function will go through the .iam and show all suppressed parts. And let you decide if you want to unsuppress them. Contact Leif Jessen Hansen if you are interested in a trial of this Tool. [email protected]
