Make pasted assembly components position where the user mouse-selects, not underneath the word "Paste"

Make pasted assembly components position where the user mouse-selects, not underneath the word "Paste"

Unfortunately, the way Inventor currently operates, whenever an assembly component is copied and then subsequently pasted into the work space, that pasted component positions itself directly underneath the word "Paste" on the right-click menu. That far too often places the pasted component underneath another assembly component, and then forces the Inventor user to rotate the entire assembly just to find the part he/she just pasted. Wow, huge waste of time and effort. This can easily be remedied by pasting assembly components exactly in the position where the user originally left clicks in the Inventor work space window, not underneath the word "Paste" in the right click menu. This needs fixed soon to alleviate much wasted time and frustration.

It is placing it at the mouse cursor.  The problem is that you're placing your cursor on the word "Paste" in the menu to click it.

Use CTRL+V (keyboard shortcut for Paste).  You won't have to move your mouse cursor to click "Paste", and the part will drop exactly where your cursor is.  Plus it's faster than the right-click menu anyway, especially if pasting multiple instances.

jterlerbc, get a clue. Many users are using the right-click menu to place pasted components, and the UI should work good either way they choose.

There is no particular advantage to the way right-clicking for paste works currently.  I did not say that the current behavior is useful, or that they shouldn't change it. Personally I think the current behavior is silly just like you do.

What I pointed out is that the problem is 100% avoidable, using an existing method that is faster anyway.  The current behavior is goofy, and I'm not sure you'd find many people that disagree.  But the problem can be made wholly irrelevant right now, without waiting for anything to get added to Inventor.

Could you add a copy and paste with respect to position? Similar to how AutoCAD has Ctrl+Shift+C Ctrl+Shift+V or the copy command.

@mgreenTQ45F thanks for posting the idea to us. Are you talking about the sketch geometry copy & paste?

I was thinking more of placing parts in assemblies. But both would be great.

Many thanks for posting the idea to us. As to sketch copy & paste, it has been supported in Inventor 2023.2, and you can review the page at https://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2023/ENU/?guid=GUID-1E4F8747-7C13-4544-A389-339EECF2C9E5

As to component copy & paste in assembly, it has been tracked as [INVGEN-66692] for investigation. Many thanks!
