Make it easier to determine what constraints are constraining

Make it easier to determine what constraints are constraining

One of the challenges in Assemblies with lots of sub-assemblies, parts, and constraints is figuring out which constraint does what.

Sometimes the constraint highlights on the model itself are good enough, but sometimes it's hard to figure out just what those are or trace with sub-assembly/part they belong to.

But what if hovering over each constraint quickly gave clear information in the Browser tree about what exactly those constraints are constraining? Something like this:

Then, to gain quick access to what's being constrained, you could do this:

So this idea proposes a way to help determine which parts (or features) are acted on by a single given constraint that you're investigating.

It would also be nice if there were tools to do this following:

  • List which constraints act on a single given part (or feature) that you're investigating (even if that part/feature is in a sub-assembly) (see this thread)
  • List which constraints act on a pair of parts (or features) that you're investigating (to easily tell how two parts/features are constrained together)

Maybe the easiest way to do this would be to add a filter tool for the the "Relationships" folder. So for instance I can set up a filter which says "Constraint participant IS [Part A:1] AND Constraint participant IS [Part B:1]" to see only constraints which act on both Part A:1 and Part B:1.

A filter tool like this could also filter by constraint type, offset value, health/sickness, etc.

That's just one possibility. It might be nicer to just be able to right-click a specific Part or Parts and say "Show all applied constraints". Either way would be better than what we have.

A new idea was recently created by @Anonymous for that second bullet point in my comment above: Highlight or list contraints between two selected components. Please give it a vote if you think it would be useful.
