Item Number from Parts List as an Available Property

Item Number from Parts List as an Available Property

Here's one that I've had requests for several times.

You have an assembly view on a drawing and place a parts list for that view.  Now, you want to place several base views of individual parts for detailing.  Along with each part view, you want the corresponding item number from the parts list.

I know you can edit the view label to include model properties, such as the part name, material, etc, but there's no way to link the item number from the parts list to that part.  It would be nice to link that part to the corresponding item number in the parts list and if the parts list is renumbered, the item numbers associated with each part view would update accordingly.

I've tried placing a balloon and selecting the individual part, but it will only use "1" as the item number, since it is just a component and not an assembly.  Perhaps, when adding a balloon to a part like this, you could select the parts list that you want to reference.  Many times, you may have several sheets of details and still want the item numbers to reference the parts list on sheet 1, where the main assembly view and parts list is located.

this looks to be a 10 year old thread. has there been any update on when we should be getting this?

@joshuawilliamsonAYFKM Never! Autodesk woud rather invest there time on a software (Fusion) that essentially does exactly the same as an existing software (Inventor).  Don't expect any changes soon, if anything they'll probably obsolete Inventor and replace it with Fusion.

@dan_szymanski

If this Idea was "Accepted" in 2013, then why do we not see it working with Inventor 2024??

@I-WANT-TO-KNOW,

My guess was the occurrence in 2013 & 2017 were related to an administrative errors caused by merging duplicate ideas together. We have spent a great deal of effort deciding how we might resolve this problem. Some possible solutions for this idea are currently under discussion on the NDA based Inventor Feedback/Beta forums. If you would like to contribute to the discussion, please apply for access using this link: https://Autode.sk/InventorBeta
This idea was not marked as Implemented in 2023, therefore it did not make it into the Inventor 2024 release. Thanks & regards,

Is this the "implementation" ? If so, its useless, I might as well type in the number manually.

I am still stuck on 2021 and haven't tried it yet. The idea was that you could reference drawing BOM ITEM numbers such that if the BOM gets resorted and changes the numbers it automatically changes the DWG note instead of having to manually type "ITEM 14".

I was under the impression that the original idea was to be able to balloon a view of a subassembly with the numbers of the main assembly part list. Today it can be done with design representations but when parts are added you need to update all the representations.

Why was this not implemented for leader text as well as text?
