Maybe it would be a nice feature to **** a simpel meassure tool to Inventor view?

I think most people how use the software would appriciate it a lot!

Indeed! Long time overdue!

It is utterly ridiculous that this feature isn't included!

Autodesk needs to update the Inventor Viewer program with a measure tool. I have guys on the floor (in a separate building) that have trouble understanding certain assemblies from just views on paper. Every time they need a view or dimension that isn't on the drawing, I have to amend my current drawing, print, and then walk to the building to explain the assembly. If there was a way for them to use the viewer to grab views and dimensions that aren't necessary, but nice to have, it would great streamline our workflow.

For manufacturing, it is important to determine the dimensions of the current design or to carry out independent tasks without asking the designer

Acknowledged that this is a definite shortcoming of the InventorViewer which we've been researching recently; many other customers use the Autodesk Design Review in conjunction with DWF files or Adobe Acrobat in conjunction with 3D PDF files, to enable the downstream where the ability to measure is important.

Is using DWF or 3D PDF an option for you ? The files can be created on demand from Inventor or using Task Scheduler in batches, (or DWF can be created/managed on check-in to vault if you use that)

Also we have started to invest more in the "on-line" solutions based on A360 - have you tried https://a360.autodesk.com/viewer/ which supports measuring ? That's an ad-hoc view/collaboration tool but more ways of managing/viewing/collaborating around inventor data are available as part of the broader Autodesk360/FusionTeam environment. Are they possibilities ?

Not trying to diminish the importance of this idea for you; but offering some alternatives in the interim.

I appreciate the alternatives, I think we may be able to use the A360 Viewer for the time being. We have a library of 1000's of parts and assemblies created over the last 5 or so years, and to go back and make DWF's or 3D PDF's for all of them just isn't going to work time-wise. And like abachmann said, it gets frustrating for both parties to have to stop their current task and especially in our specific case, walk between buildings, just for a single view or added dimension. And I'd like to avoid eventually uploading our entire library of parts, when it would be easier to use a viewer with a measuring tool similar to the ones that exist in A360 and Inventor.

@ChrisMitchell01   The only issue I see is for those looking for an Offline viewer of native parts.

A360 is online.

Design Review you have to create a new file. That's more standards for storage.

3d PDF and others again another file type and standards for storage

The better should be to have Inventor viewer really working and capable to measure and hide/show parts.

DWF or Pdf are not a solution because you need always to create a new file.

Moreover Design Review is still 32 bit and crashes if you try to load a DWF 3D made from an assembly of thousands parts.

3D pdf was introduced only recently in Inventor and so I should publish in pdf all my old models.

Thanks - All very valid points that are well understood. The topic of future viewing solutions is currently being discussed under NDA as part of the Inventor Community Feedback/beta project - if you'd like to join the conversations there &  don't already have access then you can apply using this link:

STILL not a thing?  Dang!  Must be like some kind of stress test to see how long we can live without something before giving up and moving on to another product.

@Yijiang.Cai @inv.ideareview  When do we get that freakin' measuring tool?? I would love to get the guys in the shop to use inventor view instead of e-drawings and e-suite so their software would be simular to mine. Thats not happening untill you get that long overdue measure-tool in inventor view
