Improve import in nesting utilities

Improve import in nesting utilities

1. It would be nice if importing DWG files would also be supported not only DXF

2. If you get DXF files from outside (from the customer) there are usually several views available.

From the front, from the side, isometric, etc.
There should be the possibility to select only one area from the DXF.
Either you select a chain and it uses the chain and everything within the chain or you pull a window with the mouse or even better you click a poligon together and it takes everything that is inside the polygon / window.

Of course you should be able to deactivate unimportant layers (centerlines, text etc.) during import.
You should also be able to change the scale later. Sometimes the top view you need is displayed on a different scale.

If you produce for other companies the module does not make sense at the moment because you have to remove all unneeded information before importing the DXF.

Ralph,

Thanks for your feedback. Your input is really valuable for us as we continue building our Nesting solution in PDMC.

While the initial release of Nesting Utility 2019 only allows DXF, IPT and IAM files as acceptable import formats, we are already working on support for additional file types such as DWG. Please stay tuned for further updates to Nesting Utility over the next few months.

Our more advanced, standalone nesting solution - TruNest - already supports DWG as well as several other formats today. Please check out https://www.autodesk.com/products/trunest/overview for more info. Thanks,

Ravi

@Anonymous,

You request to support DWG files in Nesting Utility was accepted and implemented in 2019.1 Update that was released in July 2018. Please check this post to see what else is new in 2019.1 update: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/nesting-utility-2019-1-what-s-new/m-p/8170843#M706215
