Recently due to BIM stipulations in a contract, I have been required to output all Inventor models to .ifc.
However, it has come to light that during the conversion process there are no options to determine how the .ifc displays when opened in another software (Revit or Navisworks etc) i.e. the converted .ifc file is only selectable as a solid lump.
It would be extremely helpful if the converted .ifc file components be individually selectable as they are in the native .iam file format.
We are also facing the same problem, the default export function is good for a unique part but not adapted for a complex assembly, as the IFC output is a single merged object without accessible sub-assemblies / internal parts and corresponding properties / attributes.
Right now we are using BIM-Dex Addin to deal with this issue, maybe it will help you..
But yes I agree, an improvement of the exportation function to IFC would be a great plus !
The solution would also be that the ifc file would see the iam Assemblies tree and their components and not be category dependent. Oh, I forgot that no one works with programmers. So it's not User Friendly.
