Do not select background edges while creating sketch dimensions

This suggestion addresses a problem that occurs when working in complex, crowded parts or sketches. After selecting two sketch features to place a dimension between them, it can be a struggle to actually create the dimension because Inventor wants to select some other edge in the part when you left-click to place the dimension, including edges on the other side of the part. The result is that you have to search around until you find a place to click where there is no edge or curve getting in the way. There is no situation (that I'm aware of) where the user would actually want to select an edge after selecting two sketch features to dimension, so this should not be the default behavior; Inventor should prioritize creating the dimension after two features have been selected.

However, this doesn't address the problem of placing a dimension that only requires selecting one sketch feature (like a circle diameter). So, perhaps it would also be good to allow the user to hold a key (like CTRL) while left-clicking to force Inventor to place the dimension rather than selecting a feature. This would be similar to the use of CTRL when placing a sketch feature to override auto-constraints, so it would be an intuitive behavior for the user.

Excellent idea. Having a way to select only the top point in a crowd of coincident points would avoid many kinds of frustration.
