Custom Dimension in drawing - WARNING icon!!

Custom Dimension in drawing - WARNING icon!!

Example: Highlight custom/edited dimensions

1.png

In drawings, we can hide the dimension value and set it to a custom value, also add text to the dimensions.

Some people can do that, for several reasons.

The issue is, if we change the 3D model, those custom/edited dimensions can be outdated and can't be hard to remember which one is a custom dim, or if another user opens the drawing, it will be hard to recognize a custom dimension.

My idea is: every time a sheet has custom dimensions, we have a warning icon somewhere, and if we click the icon, the Inventor will show/highlight every custom dimension.

Great idea. This can be a huge issue when opening up someone else's drawing and not knowing they overrode some dimensions. The warning should be shown if either the "Hide Dimension Value" (on the "Text" tab) or "Override Displayed Value" (on the "Precision and Tolerance" tab) checkbox is checked.

@DRoam , yes!! like you said, is a huge issue, and nowadays we don't have any way to solve this... at least, i'm not aware of any.

Are you aware that there is a command already to select all overridden Dimensions with one click?

Very good suggestion. It happens to me when I chenge 3d and forget which dimension was custom previously. I also want to add, if the custom added dimensions are marked in the graphic window would be better.

@Anonymous, no I wasn't aware, which is the first problem, haha. A warning has a couple big advantages over that feature. With a warning:

  • You don't have to remember to run a command to check for overrides. In fact, you don't even have to know that you need to check in the first place. If there are overrides, the warning will just be there in your face.
  • You don't have to take the time to run a command to check for overrides. The warning would just be immediately visible upon opening a sheet.

In addition, the new warning could show both overridden dimensions (as the command you pointed out does) and dimensions where "Hide Dimension Value" has been checked, which is important as these may also be displaying incorrect values.

A handy tip, and I will probably try and use it, but it will not be as quick or dependable as the requested feature due to the reasons listed above.
