Have a way to enter custom characters I commonly use when I dimension something.

You can choose from many different symbols but I am constantly entering things like OAH or DOOR WIDTH after my dimensions.

It would be easier if this could be a click rather than typing it in 25 times per drawing.  

Taking it a step further, have an option to create your own symbol, similar to User Defined Sketch Symbols, and be able to call it into the dimension text line. Could limit the height envelope to match the text size for simplicity.

There should be a possibility to add custom symbols to the dimension dialog box.

I agree with that and I think it can be useful to be able to add templates for dimensions like '(2x)<<>>' or '<<>> (width)' to easily add usual text quicker. (and get rid of multiple dimension styles).

Mechanical does that and it wasn't bad at all on that point. 

And, please, if you do implement this idea, please, add the list somewhere easy to manage for large entreprise. xml file or registry would be perfect. It will avoid having to update old drawing (because it does not change anything on the standard). "Style Library" isn't that useful in that case.

This would be a beneficial function when creating drawings that require Sketch Symbols such as Fit/Function and Safety Critical. The drawing views can quickly become quite messy and would be beneficial to add it to the dimension line.

If this is added, it would be nice to not limit it to symbols, but to be able to create your own input, such as (TYP.), and be able to insert that as a symbol.

Can this be added please? I am typing things like TYP and MATERIAL THICKNESS over and over.

Customising this box is a workflow improvement which would improve a lot of peoples lives.
