CROSS REFERENCING OF VIEWS

CROSS REFERENCING OF VIEWS

CROSS REFERENCING OF VIEWS

The usual method of referencing a view or section is to give the locations of the master and the view in the format “sheet: vertical reference: horizontal reference e.g. (4D6).

Sometimes the view and the master are on different sheets. The referencing for the view might be (4E8) while the reference for the master might be (2A3).

The location of the view is added to the master label and the location of the master is added to the view label.

The problem occurs when additional sheets are added to a drawing after this cross referencing is in place.

There is a variable under the view label properties called PARENT SHEET INDEX which returns the sheet number. This variable can be accessed in the label for the view, however, it cannot be accessed from the master label.

Currently, using this variable is of very limited use and only if the view and the master are on the same sheet.

Since the view and the master are linked via the view identifier it should be possible to select the sheet number for the master and a sheet number for the view from drop down boxes in the view creation dialogue box.

That way, when the sheet numbers are changed by adding a new sheet the numbers will update automatically.
