Copy Function

Copy Function

An interesting improvement. When I make a copy of a set of components, it should be possible to reuse all the components because in some cases, only their positions will change.

For now, it is mandatory to change at least one.

Thank you

The name of the copy command is incorrect.
This tool is used to create SIMILAR assemblies.

This is not a copy in the sense of standard PC operation.

Hello, your explanation does not change the proposed improvement in any way.

Actually, it's the same reasoning with the symmetry function; sometimes the symmetrical set uses the same parts, so there's no need to create at least one new piece.

You don't need any improvements or even tools to achieve your goals - it's all already possible.

  1. If you want to insert the same component - click insert, or drag the item from the browser to the graphics window.
  2. If you want to create a variant of the (sub)assembly with changed constraints - use model states or position representations.
  3. If you want to create a variant of the assembly with changed constraints - use model states or position representations.

That's not what I'm proposing; the result is quite different. Here, I want a copy of the assembly with the same pieces inside. Currently, I'm forced to open the IAM, make a copy using "save as," then replace or insert it into the assembly, which is longer than using the "copy" function. That's why I found it interesting to integrate this improvement into the function. Same reasoning applies to the symmetry function; it's impossible to use the same pieces. The trick is to create a new piece (which is mandatory) in the symmetry window, then replace it with the original piece to achieve the symmetrical result without a new piece.
