Changing model dimension tolerances, drawing not updating

Changing model dimension tolerances, drawing not updating

Drawings with retrieved model dimensions do not indicate they need an update when changing dimension tolerances in the model.

Drawing can be opened and tolerances do not match the model, and there is no indication on the drawing that it needs and update.

In my opinion, this should not happen, please fix.

I think it has been fixed with Inventor 2017.3 Smiley Very Happy

If I understood the issue properly the tolerance was not updating on the IDW if the tolerance was changed in the model via RMB on the dimension / Properties.

The same workflow by clicking the triangle / tolerance after double clicking the dimension did work fine. Of course users tend to use the first workflow because it's 2 clicks less, so it's faster, but then, seeing that it doesn't work, they assumed that the feature didn't work at all, so they avoided to use tolerances in 3D models for years, because "the feature doesn't work". This assumption was NOT correct, but as a consequence the "retrieve dimensions" workflow has not been extensively used in production environments.

It was an Inventor bug, and last summer I could report it to the right person.

In October 2016 I had confirmation that this specific issue has been corrected with Inventor 2017.3

On any version prior to 2017.3 the bug is still present and can be verified.

Please, confirm if this was the issue, so that some moderator can log this as "IMPLEMENTED"

This does appear to be working correctly now.  I had checked this before but can't remember if it was 2016 or 2017.

I'm on 2019 and this still does not necessarily work...I can accidentally change a retrieved drawing dimension tolerance, and the model will not update!

I suppose it depends if you right click the drawing dimension and click Edit Model Dimension... vs. just Edit..., but why are there even these two separate things?

...it's always possible to do something specific on a drawing (sometimes maybe not very useful). Nevertheless, as Johnson has pointed out in the other forum, this last step has been addressed in one of the latest updates, so maybe it's better to verify this and report over there, as this specific idea is ARCHIVED (actually it's IMPLEMENTED, as what is required in the idea is working properly since 2017.3).
