I would like to see the ability to change the shape of the detail view in an idw after it is placed. The only way we can do this now is to delete the view and place a new one. A simple task can turn into several minutes of work.
This would be great the "help: states 1. Click the identifier on the detail boundary. Grips appear on the boundary. 2. Move the cursor over a grip. A menu appears. 3. From the menu select the desired shape. Both the detail boundary and the detail view boundary update. This doesn't work for me and it was written in 2014 so maybe it was for an older release and never brought back into the new release. The only option I see is to smooth cutout shape or full detail boundary if you right click the detail and select options. You would think the fence shape could easily be implemented. Great idea!
Currently (Inv 2019), there is no way to create a custom detail shape. You only have round or square to pick from. You should pick wisely since there is no way to change it later.

Idea posted in 2012 and as of mid 2019, it is still not implemented. My money is on this idea celebrating a 10 year anniversary without being implemented!
We are currently running on Inventor Professional 2020 at work and I still cannot believe this idea has been added into this software yet. Some of our sheets run up to 20 pages and we have a load of section views that link to a detailed view so I would mean re-detailing, re-labelling, dimension and then setting up these section views all over again.
The software subscription we all have is not cheap, so something like this needs to be fixed to help us back with amount being spent out.
Come on Autodesk please get this implemented into an update soon. Thanks
Future consideration seems to be code for "placed in the too hard bucket". This is a basic feature that should exist. Hard to implement? perhaps. Necessary? yes. very yes.
Going to keep bumping these, every time it comes up for me - I don't want to get banned or anything, but it's the only way I have to make some noise.
This is a basic drafting feature - I know we want to go paperless, but folks, it's not happening - we still need to make "DRAWINGS" it's our end product, give us the tools to make better ones, please.
I'm of the opinion that there is no one on the Inventor team at Autodesk that has ever done and worked in a drawing environment and understands the needs for many of these changes we request. Just a bunch of programmers who'd rather move buttons around and change UI because it looks different so must be an improvement.
