Change dimension names inside of dimension dialog for faster workflows

Change dimension names inside of dimension dialog for faster workflows

Note: This idea is different from the one which is already implemented (the one which allows us now to write MyAngle = 34,50 directly in the Dimension Box).

It is pretty convoluted thing to assign and edit the names of the dimensions if we miss the „occasion” at the dimension creation.

This is a royal pain especially when we add driven dimensions which their main (sole?) purpose is to be referenced elsewhere.

Unfortunately we cannot assign the names for driven dimensions, except from Parameters window, of course.

The same thing applies if we want to edit these names - we must stop our workflow in order to open the Parameters window, search for the dimension (where is it? how it is named? - usually we have many dimensions so it is difficult to find it) change its name, close the window (a lot of attention focus shift and mouse dance) and return to our work.

IMHO the workflow would be much more streamlined and productive if in the Dimension Dialog Box and in In-Canvas controls we would have another edit box above containing the name of the (driven) dimension, ready to change.

This workflow enhancement applies to normal dimensions because there are enough cases in which we need either to add the names after the dimension's creation either to change the names because of many reasons - eg. the importance / global impact of a dimension is changing and (suddenly) it will be referenced in many places and/or the name must change (eg. exactly the case above - from Slope to MainSlope or StaircaseSlope etc. etc.) - so having an in-place „Rename dimension” would be a big, big relief.

Yes you can.  Right click on the dimension in the sketch and pick "Dimension Properties".  There's a box for editing the name in there.

Aside from that inaccuracy, I think this is a great idea.  I use the name-in-the-box method you described all the time for naming parameters on the fly, and it's pretty good.  But it's not readily discoverable by new users, and is clunky for renaming.
