Bundle multiple instances of same part in Assembly tree

Bundle multiple instances of same part in Assembly tree

Hi!

As a way of managing multiple instances of the same part in the assembly tree I would like the ability to bundle these instances together. The bundle should display the part name  and the number of instances.

I know that this can be done manually through folders, counting the instances and edit the folder name. However in assemblies with multiple instances for many different part the process must be repeated for each part and if parts are added the need to be manually moved to the right folder and the number of instances updated..

What I am proposing should be done automatically by right-clicking in the Assembly tree and choose the command. The effect would be that a fully bundle Assembly tree would be a exact image of the the assembly BOM.

Best Regards Martin

Unless I am missing something, while I get the concept of what you are saying, what if you needed to edit an individual part within the bundle?  How would that be done?

A good Question! Expand/Collapse Bundle would be a natural way I think!

I think creating folders for this does the same thing... but being able to group them automatically would be nice too.

EDIT: Just realized I hadn't read the entire idea... ignore my hastiness.

If it adds an entry to the browser, this needs to be sortable using the "Alpha Sort" command.  Currently items in the folders are not sorted using this command. It would be nice if it would sort the items correctly in numerical order also.  This is NOT correct.

Siemens NX has this functionality. Its great and keep the folder structure as small as possible. Autodesk, please implemet this functionality!!

I think I may be able to create something using the API for this functionality. I'll have to have a play!

This would help our company significantly. Please add into Native Software.

I'd like to add to this. If this feature automatically bundles copies of the same part/subassembly together, then double clicking on the folder should be the same as right click->open. Double clicking on an instance should be the same as right click->edit, as normal.

If there are multiple representations/iParts then they should not all be bundled into the same folder automatically. There should be a folder for each version. Double clicking on the folder should open to that representation/iPart.
