Browser Folders in Part Environment

Browser Folders in Part Environment

Whilst I appreciate that we cannot move features up & down the browser without changing the Part (we are free to move components up & down in the Assembly, therefore browser folder 'restructurng' has no impact), it would be nice to have a second browser (ala the Vault browser) where we can sort, reorder, add to folders, the content of a file (group all extrusions, revolves, sketches etc)

Even if this was just a visual  display of the 'sorted' feature tree with no editing capability (maybe a right click option to 'Goto Feature' in main browser for editing) it would make it easier for finding, renaming etc

How does an idea go from accepted to future consideration?  I have to say if I ever get a survey on how I feel Autodesk treats its Inventor customers, I am going to be looking at the "needs improvement" section.  Any bets on if fusion has this functionality?

To be honest, I thought this was a feature I would never use.  I never used it in the 10+ years with ProEngineer, then after a few years with Solidworks, I realized how helpful it can be.

It hope AutoDESK realizes it can be a purely cosmetic folder - it does not need to do anything but keep features together.  In fact, it might be dangerous to do anything else with it.

Any update on this?

Seem like a pretty elementary thing to ask for.

Use in Solidworks all the time.

We are using a folder since many years for workfeatures in part environment by using the existing tools.

We have a 3D sketch as the first feature in the browser tree.

Additionally you can switch visibility of all work features by switching on/off the visibility of this 3D sketch.

Hahahahaha, wait - so did you make this yourself? And have to learn the API to do it? Bravo @MattH_Work if that's the case, Bravo.

Let me know if you need a BETA tester. 🙂

@MattH_Work, wow, i just looked at your screenshot in awe.

I think it's quite cool, what power the api gives to the user, on the other hand i find it quite hard to understand that autodesk isn't doing it themselves, although this idea was accepted, back logged, and then again accepted.

Please let us know here, when this app comes to fruition. Very nice work.

Best regards.

@MattH_Work, this is great, something I would use a lot for sure.  Is it in the app store now?  I tried finding it with no luck.  Please let us all know when it's there, very useful, excellent work!

I agree with this. Expecially useful with 100's of imported bodies. It's not necessary to change the order of features to make this work in some form, as with Solidworks. The API version produced above is very nice but it's not what I want or would find useful. I just want to hide things away in folders to reduce my scrolling time up when the list of features becomes excessively long, especially with imported bodies where the need to edit them from the browser is unlikely.

You've been able to do this in SolidWorks for years.....

It would be nice to create custom folders within the part files to separate different features and or sketches.

Hi guys,

The end of 2019 is here, any updates?

Still don't have this functionality.

Here is another temporary ("built-in" and "free") solution / idea, but really can't wait for it to be collapsible groups / folders.  Kind of tired doing it manually and have a long feature list.Capture.PNG

@MattH_Work Hey since autodesk is unable to solve this mystery did your version make it to the app store, and whats it name?

Best regards

I would like to see the possibility to create folders within a part, just like in assemblies, so that features can be grouped within a folder. Of course this means it is only possible to group features that 'belong' together. The order of the features is leading.

This function is in SolidWorks and it is very handy for a quick overview or other users can see where to find a specific feature.

Definitely useful when skeleton solids, work features and prequisites need collecting together.

And in addition: if you suppress a folder, all features in that folder should also be suppressed (and vice versa).

@gert-leonvanlier Essentially control all settings for contained features in one menu, like visibility, suppression etc

@leowarren34  Exactly.

This would be especially useful when I use multiple points on multiple planes for 3d splines, @gert-leonvanlier any other tools you'd want in the menu?
