Hi, I wanted to add an External Rule to a form. To my great surprise, the behavior of the On Click Action is not possible for this External Rule. My suggestion is to add this for External ruls as well.
People have been wanting this ability for many, many years, and have talked about it for many, many years here on the forums, so it is a burning mystery, why this requested setting hasn't been exposed and/or implemented yet. Seems to me it should have been implemented at the same time as the equivalent setting was added which allows this behavior for local iLogic forms and local iLogic rules.
Also, I just wanted to add a link here to the forum post which digs deep into this issue, and led to the creation of this Idea. In this post, @DRoam did some research into a workaround for this issue, which revealed that this behavior setting actually already exists within the XML file for the external iLogic forms, even though this setting isn't a visible option within the iLogic Form editor, while working on a Global Form and referencing an external rule. After realizing this information, this just adds fuel to the fire under this burning question. If this requested behavior has already had an established setting being saved for it, why hasn't this setting been exposed to the iLogic Form Editor's user interface, even after all this time?
Thank you for sharing this. I also came across this forum in my search. Unfortunately, this solution was only for Global Forms. I was looking for it for the "normal" forms.
The work around that I now use is to create a rule that calls the external rule. You can control the internal rule with the on click action. This works, but somewhat takes away the purpose of an External Rules.
It won't be until 10 years.🙂Sometimes I think I work with Inventor out of nostalgia. He can't do different pattern, mirror constrain and others. If it was my company, I would buy Solidworks.
