work feature visibility in an assembly

I created numerous planes/axis in a part to aid in constraining this part in an assembly. When I place the part in the assy the planes/axis are not available in the browser tree or visible in the geometry. All items in the object visibilty menu are set to on.

?????

Can you post both the part and assembly files as attachments?

Hi,

you will find your planes and axis expanding the part in the browser, clicking the + icon.

I did, they aren't there. Below is screen shot of the part. You can see the planes/axis I created.

Below is a screen shot of the assy. No planes/axis under the part.

Any ideas?

Looks like you're working with an iPart.

It's possible you were working on an different member and were in "Member only" mode when the work features were added, which means they won't show up for other members. Can you double-click the Part Table (at the top of the browser tree for the part) and make sure "Enable" (as opposed to "Suppress") is listed for each member (row) and for each of the work features?

None of the work features are in my iPart table. Which I assume to mean that they should appear in any instance. Correct?

There is nothing suppressed under the suppression tab.

That shoud be correct, yes. Could you possibly attach the actual IPT and IAM files? That would make it much easier to diagnose what's going on.

First thing I noticed is that you are missing a coincident constraint.

Then I notice that you have not installed Service Pack 2.

Once I added the features to the iPart they showed up fine in the assembly.

When I set the assembly browser to Modeling View.

Does changing the browser from Assembly View to Modeling View help any? That should display all your work features.

Thanks JD, that worked fine.

Kind of hokey that you have to make work features "active" for them to be available in the Assy view. Isn't that complicated in SolidWorks.

thanks again.

You are doing an iPart - in many cases you want the end result to be as simple as possible.  The iPart might be created by the highest level user to by used by the lowest level Inventor user.  Only expose that which is really really needed for the end purpose.
