Work Feature Section References are not updated with Replace Model Reference Command (Inventor 2020)

Work Features (Datums, Axis, Points) used as a Reference in Sections are not updated if the Replace Model Reference Command is used.

Example: In Part1 one is Section Perpendicular to WorkPlane1 thru WorkPoint1.

Part6 was duplicated from Part1 and modified. Replace Model Reference Command was used. References are not updated.

Questions:

1) Could you replicate this behavior?

2) Is this behavior already fixed in newer Inventor versions?

Thank you

Please post your example files.  If you have two models and two drawing, use Zip to make one file and attach it here.

Hi! Replace Model Reference (RMR) works the best if the the target component and the current component share the same document ID (save as, save copy as, or copy). If they are just geometrically similar but created from scratch separately, RMR may lead to unattached annotations. They need to be reattached manually.

Many thanks!

@SBix26

Unfortunately now I don't have access to my workstation, but it was 1minute example Part and Dwg. You could try any shape and any WorkFeature referenced Section View.

Later you make a duplicate ipt (yes @johnsonshiue, by duplicate I mean copy/paste file) and change some dimensions and RMR in original drawing. Section Line should be adjusted to new WorkFeature location. But for version 2020 it is not.

So, my questions 1 and 2 from original post are still valid.

Edit:

Btw. just tried it at home in 2019 and also not working. Attaching the new files from 2019.

Section line is still attached to the references, but the references stuck in original location.

Hi Jimmy,

Then I will need to see the files. Please share them (zipped) with me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I would like to understand why the included work geometry fails to attach.

Many thanks!

Hi Jimmy,

I am sorry I missed the attachment! Many thanks for sending me again! I took a quick look. As I replied in the email, it seems that it was a bug in 2020. The two parts indeed have the same document ID. Inventor 2020 did not seem to handle the reference swap properly. The perpendicular constraint was not kept.

On 2021 and later, the issue has been fixed. The perpendicular constraint will retain. If you have access to 2021 or later releases, please try it out and report back your findings.

Thanks again!
