The quick answer is Inventor has a default VBA script file it looks for. This is an application option and I'm pretty sure it can't be set to nothing. By default it should be an empty ivb file that comes with Inventor. There can also be VBA scripts saved inside a file similar to iLogic scripts. If it's not hanging while loading it, this is one of those things it's probably best to ignore lol.

every inventor document has its own embedded "vba project", which gets loaded when a document is opened fully  (ie. not in express mode), even if it is empty. the statusbar text does not always update quickly. sometimes this message stays there for a long time when another lengthy load operation takes place, ie. a large model or drawing is being opened. also, when the vba editor is open, it takes extra time to show each document's embedded project, so the message stays visible even longer.

at least that is my observation.

Hi,

Loading VBA Project has made loading Inventor files very slow for me. Does anyone know how to stop this?

Thanks

Hi! What release are you on? On Inventor 2021 and later, if you don't use VBA, you can uninstall it.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson.  I'm curious on the embedded VBA in Inventor.  We are currently on Inventor 2023.5.2 and good number of us are experiencing a slow loading time of assemblies.  I'm wondering if this could be improved by removing the VBA?  Is there a simple way to check that if uninstalling it we are not, inadvertently going to cause other issues?

Hi Ian,

It is hard to tell. Unless you have VBA script running in those files, I am not sure if VBA would matter. Please help answer the following questions.

Does the slow open happen on any file?

Are those files legacy files (pre-2022)?

Where are \Design Data\ files stored in your active project?

Where do you access the files from (a local drive, a cloud drive, or a shared network drive)?

In the meantime, please make sure all critical Windows updates, the latest graphics driver, and all critical PC vendor updates are installed. Then use Windows Disk Cleanup to remove cached files.

Many thanks!

Thank you,

Does the slow open happen on any file?   No. We have many large assemblies with a similar amount of parts (3000-4000). Some open much quicker than others. It's just that I have noticed, on the slow opening files, the "loading VBA" message lingering.

Are those files legacy files (pre-2022)?     No. There are some slow opening large assembles created in Inv 2023.

Where are \Design Data\ files stored in your active project?    Default C:\Work\Standards\2023\Design Data

Where do you access the files from (a local drive, a cloud drive, or a shared network drive)?     Vault servers.

Hi Ian,

I guess some of the iam or ipt files do have embedded VBA scripts doing something on open. Maybe you can try disabling VBA by uninstalling it from Inventor.

Many thanks!
