why do custom content center take so long to load

Hello Sean,

 Content Center is not related to an MS Access, it is based on Microsoft SQL engine - for sure I will ask Content Center Developer. I am responsible for Content Center many years, believe me, I have never seen such message.

Creating part from CC As Standard/As Custom is almost same, there is API in Inventor generating IPT representing Content Center part, just folder where IPT is save is defined based on As Standard/As Custom. 

I am not sure if your case is

- As Standard is fast

- As Custom is slow

If yes, it could related to an permission of folder where are you placing CC part, or an process blocking access to such folder. Or as Johnson is suggesting, some "inside" process inside your CC part (IPT) like iLogic rule.

But in general, such small family as image shows has to instance member instantly. You see family table data (family table dialog) , means Content Center provides CC data = works as expected, something strange has to be in/with IPT generated. We are sorry, we are not aware on any general issue.

Our CC library is also slow, and it might well be that it is since 2021 is installed. Placing the part is OK, but the time it take to activate another command after that takes much longer than we were used....

I'm sorry that you are still having trouble with this.  Would you be able to either describe the exact steps you took that led up to this problem, or even record a Screencast video of the workflow leading to this?  There may be some tiny clue that will allow one of us to help you out.

If I do a screencast, it will just lock up Inventor forcing me to close it out with Task Manager. As I mentioned earlier, I'll just place the CC parts as standard and not share the project with the forum. This thread has gone on for too long without a resolution.

I'm sorry to hear you say that.  I know there are many people here who would love to see you resolve your issue.  Sometimes it can take a lot of back and forth to solve what seems like a simple problem.  We are always here to help whenever we can, no matter how long it takes.  Some of the questions I posted as a user took months to resolve.  (Maybe I was a slow learner? 😂 )

I figured out the problem. It was an added-on 3rd party app. Now I'm having trouble inserting a custom CC part to mate with hole patterns in parts in the main assembly. How should I do this without a lot of fuss?

Hi Thomas... what part of this are you still looking for a solution to?  It looks like the speed issues were related to a third party app.  Marking that as a solution, but are there other parts of this that you are having trouble with today?

@CGBenner I was seeing very slow performance when inserting a CC part from most but not all of the users doing last minute testing  before general rollout of 2021 next week for our users. The Content Center libraries, are local but I was using Box Drive to copy them down to users machines. Inventor didn't like this. I changed to copy them down using Box Drive and then sync out to a separate local folder and the issue has been resolved.

I've been frustrated with this for 2 versions, I just found that upon insert. (I had an out of date part file in my assembly) In the background it does the "refresh" command. We need a switch or toggle in Content center options to not refresh the assembly. This is not useful. (this is NOT the "Refresh out of date standard parts during placement, this is off and should remain off for most of us)
