Why cant I create a rib

With regard to attached part file, why can't I create a rib for "Sketch3", or how do I create a rib.

Edit:

I have also attached the part which I was trying to draw. Only the rib feature is remaining.

there are many options here

1. make a 3D sketch

2. make a surface area

3 make the thickness

I also thought of extrusion, but the bottom side does not blend with the slotted projection. It is straight, while the slot projection is circular. There remains a gap between rib and the bottom surface.

When used the loft - will not have a flat top face at the Rib.

Alternatively, you can provide a small gap (depending on the radius of the cylindrical face and the width of the rib) when you sketch the rib axis.

I have edited my question to include the drawing figure. You can see that it is a simple rib which ideally should be designed in inventor by using the Rib feature. Hence, I would like the respondents to suggest a solution using the "Rib" feature.

The figure is incorrect - hand drawn art created before the days of CAD.
The logical solutions are obvious when you attempt to 3D model (or go out to the shop floor and attempt to machine the art  version).

Back early in my career (in the last century) I was working on the shop floor as a machinist. I got a drawing like this (but starting from a casting) and at first thought I had scrapped the casting when it didn’t look like the drawing. Only after some logical thinking 🤔 did I realize that the drawing was wrong.

@JDMather ,

In that case I will close this question. I have just began to learn inventor and this figure was a part of my learning process and relatively unimportant.

Your first sketch is all wrong.

Do you want to learn how to use Inventor correctly?

Edit Sketch your Sketch1.

Click and drag various points/lines around the screen.

What do you observe?

I observe numerous missing geometry constraints (which should be automatic).

Also - I recommend that you go to Autodesk - Account

and download the Updates for your version of Inventor.

@drawings_bemcopvt

We can go step-by-step through correct modeling proceedure.

Hi! The rib in this case cannot go for the full length. Or it will alter the circular edge at the top. The rib sketch needs to offset inward a bit.

Many thanks!

@johnsonshiue

I made the sketch line a bit offset at both ends, still inventor won't create the rib.

You should pay attention to 2 options for Rib:
the position of the Rib relative to the sketch plane and the direction of creation of this Rib.

PS.: Check that your coordinate planes coincide with the planes of symmetry of the part!

What version of Inventor are you using?

Can you Attach the *.ipt of your attempt to model the geometry?
