View inventor dwg issue

Hello,

We are running into a major issue when viewing inventor drawings in autocad, hopefully some one can give some insight into what is going on.

The attached images are what we are viewing in autocad, there are 3 sheets that all have some layer on them however the data on them is not current.  This has become a major issue because the revisions we are making are not being reflected on the current sheet and our vendors are getting old drawings.  The pdf is the correct drawing with the proper revisions.

We are using Inventor 2013 SP2, autocad 2013, Vault Collaboration 2013.  We need to get this fixed immediately, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Clarkeng09,

If you save the your Inventor DWG as an AutoCAD DWG does it make a difference?

Thank you.

Do you use vault? And are you saving the drawings as idw or dwg? If you save them as dwg then they will open in autocad just fine. Although you would be best to have two folders, one with the orignal and one for submission. As if you open with autocad and save, it can sometimes prevent it from being opened in inventor without converting it. You should make your template a dwg if you use autocad alot to print from, or your vendor does. Does not affect the way Inventor uses them, just allows easier integration with autocad. If you have vault let me know, because if you copy from vault it can give you the wrong version if the vault window is not refreshed (F5).

Thanks for the reply.  We are using Vault Collaboration 2013 and we are using the Inventor DWG format because it is easier for our vendors.  That is where the issue comes in where it is not displaying in ACAD correctly.

If I save as an autocad DWG it does export correctly with very minor line spacing issue.  Is it possible to have the default save to be an autocad dwg?

We are also saving back to AutoCAD 2004 because some of our vendors don't like to upgrade.  I also attached the dwg that is giving us issues.  It's not everyone but there seems to be an increasing larger number of them coming up.

Thanks,

Steve

If you are using vault and saving to dwg, then open the vault window to the proper location, and open the folder you want to copy it to (not the original inventor file location. Make sure to refresh the vault window (F5) then drag the files from the vault to the storage location. this should solve your problem. If you save your template as a dwg, then all inventor drawing will save as dwg's.

Clarkeng09,

This issue with setting your default to an AutoCAD DWG is that when you save your document as an AutoCAD DWG it becomes a standalone AutoCAD document an no longer references your original IAM/IPN/IPT….

FYI.

Only if you open the original in autocad and save it. As long as you create the dwg in Inventor and open it in Inventor, it will always retain all references and act just like any idw. This is why you copy the files and never open the originals in autocad. Once you open the original and save in autocad, you are done for.

Thanks for the replies.  Any editing we do is right though inventor and then checked in to vault.  The only ones opening the drawings in ACad is our vendors and they are seeing the weird sheet issue.  This issue is difficult to recreate and it doesn't happen every time a file is saved.  I am trying to trace it back to specific users to see if there settings or work flow is different.

Thanks for the input.

This may sound funny to everyone but check his printer drivers make sure they are up to date.

Had this issue with a client and I found out his printer driver was not up to date and when we updated it the drawings were good..

He had the same issue all others were fine but one user..

Does this ocurr when YOU open them up with autocad, or just the vendor? You can print to a pdf and upload that to the vault too if you want. Or better yet make a folder just for the vendor so they cant touch your orgininals.

It happens to us as well when we open with autocad 2013.  We do create pdf's when the files are released and some vendors like the pdf's but others want the dwg's.

The vendors don't have direct access to our vault, eventually we may setup buzzsaw for them but right now we just get them from vault and email them over.

I will double check the print drivers hopefully this week when I get a chance.

Thanks,

Steve
