Using curved surface to cut

Hello, 

I have an issue when trying to shape the end of a length of pipe. I want the pipe to be flush on the outside of the hemi-spherical head. I can select the outer part of the pipe which then highlights in green. 

Is there a way to copy that part of the pipe only, then create a new part from it? 

Any help to find a solution is much appreciated.

1. Extrude a new body

2. create a surface area for which we will trim

3 divide the body
