Not realy clear what you are trying to do:

when a 3D *.ipt model: inventor Home + Export + Export to DWG should work

Then, is your 3D part a solid??

Try inventor Home + Export + Cad Format, and choose a SAT or STEP file

then open this in autocad with the command "ACISIN" for *.sat and "STEPIN" for *.step

when you are talking about an Inventor Drawing, you need to do inventor Home + Export + Export to DWG

the "save as type" must say an autocad dwg and not an inventor dwg then

- Aut viam inveniam aut faciam -
(I shall either find a way or make one.)

Jurgen is right, we need more info.

Have you saved your inventor file first, is the output folder read-write? have you tried on another inventor session? a different inventor file ? a different computer?

I had that error come up before, it was because the folder I was trying to save to was write protected.
