I am doing a project using Autodesk Inventor. I sent the files to an Autodesk tutor to comment on but when he returned them I was unable to open the files. Could anyone help me with this?

you'll need to provide a bit more info ...what version of Inventor are you on ..

or share the file

HOWEVER ..I'm betting he has a newer version if you're not on 2017.

Students can download the latest version of Inventor from the Autodesk Student Community for free.

Hi!

Have you tried to open the files through Inventor´s menu instead of double clicking the file in Windows?

Sometimes I have had troubles when trying to open a file directly from its location, but then it has worked if I go to File -> Open tab -> "Open an Inventor file or other types of CAD files".

I hope this helps you, at least I was able to open your files (though I´m running Inventor 2017).

I can open your 3 files using v2016.

Unfortunately you haven't attached base components for each of your file.

The following files are missing in your attachment:

Gear 2 (2).ipt

Hour_Tube-01 (2).ipt

Gear 5 (2).ipt

Right now I´m working on a Windows 7 PC, but actually I believe I used a machine with Windows 10 & Inventor 2016 when I noticed the issue..

So maybe it´s indeed something related to that!

All the files are still in version 2016 (build 200138000, 138), so you should be able to open it with your version of IV2016. They all show that they need migrating to IV2017 (I'm on IV2017).

Inventor 2020, In-Cad, Simulation Mechanical

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file

I wonder whether there is any way to Private Message you? Damian has significant problems with a complex drawing he has to finish and it is too slow over the forum in terms of communication and misunderstanding especially when his mum tries to post the question.Maybe even a phone call? What is your location and time?

Who's Tutoring him?

That's where I'd start.  They aren't on the same page.  WIndows 7 to Windows 10 should be an issue. We have a few seats of 7 left at work..

I would recommend getting the newest version (for free like JDMathers said) or at least the same as whom ever is Tutoring/teaching him.

Mike

1. Download and install the Service Packs for 2016.

2. As @JimBackull stated, do not attempt to open file by double clicking the filename - use File Open from within Inventor.
