Unable to delete or add constraints in a different position representation

This might sound like a dumb question, I'm a newbie, and just switched to using Inventor from a similar CAD program I've been using for many years, but I've been searching for 4 hours and haven't been able to solve the problem.

I'm unable to delete or add constraints in a new position representation, the Extended position (shown in the screenshot). I have no problem doing anything in the Master Position Representation, but in Extended Position, the Joint and Constraint Buttons are greyed out... and right-clicking a relationship... the Delete command is greyed out.

You can only add/delete constraints in the Master position rep.

If you need different constraints in a position rep, add and suppress them in Master.  When you go to your other position rep, suppress and enable your various constraints as required.

Thank you so much for explaining. It's still a little confusing why it works that way, but I think I'm able to make progress on the assembly now.

Think of a hydraulic ram in it's extended position as the "Master" position with a constraint of 36" for the extended length. You now want to create a positional view with the cylinder retracted. You can't delete the original 36" constraint and replace it with a 24" constraint. You can suppress the 36" constraint in the retracted view and place a 24" constraint to move the extended ram into a retracted position.

When you return to the Master view the cylinder will return to it's extended position/state
