Turn off Center of Gravity problem

Center off gravity for a part is showing up in assemblys, can´t turn it off !!??

If I open the part I can turn COG on and off with out problem...but it´s still left visibly in the assembly.

Tried to change the view of representation for the part in the assembly, COG still left, very annoying.

Would be greatfull for any advice 🙂

Inventor 2017.3 Build 233

Thanks...

Is it the CoG of the part that shows?

Or did you try and disable CoG in the assembly environment?

Can you attach the files?

I don't seem to be able to reproduce it in one of my parts.

have you tried to open that part, go to view tab and disable the COG visibility, than save?

This is a known bug according to this:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcartic...

On such a simple part, I would just create a new.

Otherwise, create a new part and press derive. It's a dirty fix, but it solves it.

Just derived it into a new part and got rid of it.

I had the same problem, back with Inventor 2015 see this thread http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/update-1-for-inventor-2016-is-available/m-p/5623478#M54... .When I was asked to send the files to a Inventor member of staff I of course ZIPPED the files and emailed it to him. However when he received them the COG was NOT VISABLE, subsequently I deleted ALL the files in that project and un-zipped my copy of the zipped files back in to the project and NO COG visible.

I'm Not saying this will work for you but its worth a try.

Actually guys there are multiple bugs here. In 2016 I believe maybe 2017 we wrote a migrator (executes when you open in that version for the first time with legacy files) that turned the COG off.

But I have seen multiple cases where users have said that the COG has reappeared after going through that migrator.

The solution is not to turn on the migrator again, what we know is that clearly we did not fix ALL of the causes of the bug. The migrator fixes the issue but the cause apparently can still happen.

Any help you guys can give us in finding what CAUSES the COG to become permanently on would be very helpful.

We have a theory that it has to do with using the repair and/or construction environment.

Hi,

Same problem here. Got all the COG and nothing worked to hide it.

Didn't use the "repair and/or construction environment" but used the folders.

I can't work with my assembly anymore, I really need some help.

Best Regards

What version of Inventor?

Have you installed the latest updates?

I'd hope Autodesk has fixed this issue by now..

But maybe not as this link seems to indicate it still being looked into..

@SteveMDennis Steve, Has this problem fixed yet?

Unfortunately it is not fixed yet. We still cannot find the cause. We have multiple people trying to find the workflow that causes the bad attribute to get put on the graphics that is causing this. It can also cause body visibility to stop working in a part...

This is very high on our list and we continue to try to find the bad workflow. We have had multiple different sets of eyes on the code and suspected workflows and we still can't find it.

The problem is the data sets are basically worthless to us. We have lots of datasets showing the problem... after it has occurred. It is how we verify it is the same issue, is the attribute sitting in the wrong place?

But so far no data set or combination of data sets has helped us narrow in on a cause workflow...

One of the most frustrating bugs I've seen in 19+ years of Inventor work.

Thanks for your replies guys. So without fixing the bug, do you know any workaround to correct my assembly ? Thanks !

We put in a migration to "fix" it in 2016 I believe but as we have many reports of it returning post - 2016 the fix was only temporary, i.e. we addressed the symptom not the cause.

So if you are pre-2016 taking it through 2016 will "fix" it, but if you do the workflow that causes it again the COG will come back on permanently.

If you can narrow the issue down to the particular part that is causing the issue and attach that *.ipt here - I have been successful in correcting several of these parts that exhibit this issue.

@JDMather

Can you share with me how you are able to "repair" these files?  Perhaps your repair will point us to the cause...

Most of the ones I have seen have some sort of non-manifold body type issue where it looks good (sort of) but on close inspection the geometry in not logically possible. Once that is fixed - the issue disappears.
