Tube & Pipe question of the day....

The answer to this question will help me to help another user on this forum, I hope.  I've been searching and can't find anything that answers this one:

In Inventor Tube & Pipe module, there is a template file that gets called every time you enter the environment for the first time in an assembly.  This template file is used to create the Master pipe run and all subsequent runs and routes afterward.  Once in the environment, each new pipe RUN is created as an .iam file, and each new ROUTE (as well as spools generated by populating that route) is created as an .ipt file.  Here is the question....  How does Tube & Pipe know WHICH part or assembly template file to use for each of these?  Does it just go to the default Standard.iam or Standard.ipt templates?  Is there some place that you can specify a template for these files created by the system inside the T&P module?

And go.....

All i know is that the design data folder contains a subfolder called "tube & pipe", which contains a "piping runs.iam" file.

Not sure how the T&P module gets its information though...

the "special" template piping runs.iam  for pipe and runs should be in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor2015\Design\Tube & Pipe

Interesting question about templates.

1. Runs - the template is piping runs.iam as already noted by others. Tip: For multi-user environment put your Design Data (including piping runs) on a network.

2. Run - Don't know. But it would be nice to be able to control the iProperties if we could select a template.

3. Route - Don't know either (Don't really care? It's just a sketch).

4. "Spool" - The template is the CC family template.

It would be nice if the original T&P developers were still around to answer these questions. (If they are still alive. It's been a long time)

For the record.... I know about Piping Runs.iam.  I mention it, though not by name, in my original post.

My question was about the templates used by runs and routes.  The answer, provided offline by @salariua is that T&P uses the Standard part and Assembly templates in your designated template location, for routes & runs.

And a route may be just a sketch, but for every route, an .ipt file is created from this template.  The question was raised in relation to another forum question about where to set units for Tube & Pipe, my initial answer was: in the template, but I needed to clarify WHICH template.

Thank you for responding.

Chris,

I know that you knew about the piping runs.iam. In fact, I think you were the one who alerted me to it in the first place long ago. I was just trying to organize your question so that others would know what you were talking about.

However, what if we wanted to point the RUN to a specific template other than the Standard.iam so that most of the iProperties could be already filled in? This particular part of your question is not yet solved. We can't change the Standard.iam since there are other tools/environments that likely use it as well.

Maybe that's a tangent. Thanks for bringing up the subject anyway.

Hey Les,

I wasn't directing that at you, just wanted to clear the air in general since so many responses seemed to be telling me about that file.

Technically the question is answered, but I agree with you that the answer is not sufficient.  I think that this is yet another T&P enhancement that needs to go into the Idea Station, and I plan to do so very soon.  We should be able to point T&P to whatever template files we want, in order to completely customize our setups.  Once I write up the Idea, I'll start a new thread in here with a link asking for Kudos.

Thanks again for your input!
