Trouble creating flat pattern

Anonymous
Not applicable

I've tried creating a flat pattern from a curved panel but I'm not having any luck. I've tried creating the part different ways, so I'm not sure what I'm missing from this process. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be grateful.

I'm using Inventor 2015.

Hi!

First, the thickness value as to be the same as the thickness in sheet metal rule to be able to flat.

Anyway, the flat pattern can't solve with that geometry, so i maded a new approach. Check it!

That works perfect.

So you created a contour flange based on the geometry of the original model, but how do you apply the unfold tool?

Click Unfold

Select the lower "tickness face" as stationary face

select "Add All Bends"

and that's it

Next split the faces

Do the cuts

and Refold (in the browse tree, hover the mouse arrow in Unfold, right mouse button and choose "Refold").

I noticed that it looked to me like maybe you were doing too much work.

I used 2 simple sketches - is this what you are after?

Yes, this is a much simplier way to approach it. Thanks for breaking it down more efficiently.

Make sure that your sketches report Fully Constrained in lower right corner of the screen when editing.

You should have started a new thread and then add link to this thread if it was relevant.

iProperties seems to indicate that you have not installed Service Packs.

The 7A dist.ipt master file was all that was really needed to diagnose the problem.

Your geometry is missing nearly all relevant constraints - especially Tangents, Vertical....

You did wayyyy too much work - you do not need double lines for sheet metal parts - only the one side profile.

Your geometry is not dimensioned.

Your geometry is not anchored to the Origin Center Point.

Do you want to learn how to do this design correctly?

Step 1. Install the Service Packs and Updates for your version of Inventor.

Step 2.  Your dimensions (or lack of) do not make logical sense.

Start a new part file.

Turn on the Visibility of the Origin Center Point.

Create a rectangle above the origin.

Add a Coincident constraint between the midpoint of the bottom horizontal line of the rectangle and the origin.

Dimension the rectangle as shown in image below.

Change the lines to Construction linetype.

Now we have established the width and height of your design for this letter A.

Attach your file here for next instruction.
