Stretching Center Marks / adding Dashes

Is it true that I must right-click and create my own dashes all the time? I've never asked the question, but always wondered about this: why is it that when I stretch the ends of a center mark, it doesn't just create those dashes on the fly (without me having to right-click on it and eyeballing them in there)? Is there a setting I'm overlooking?

I agree!  However, for the situation you show above, the Centerline tool does a nice job of placing dashes:

As long as you have something to connect the other end of the centerline to, you can just apply it on top of an existing centermark, too.

Are you using a centerline but not necessarily in place of the centermark, you've got them doubled up?
