Stress analysis results colour bar handles like fusion 360

Is it possible to view the different areas of stress concentrations above a certain threshold level the way it is possible with fusion 360 using the handles on the legend? (see images 4 and 5)

Also, is it possible to view a cross section view of the results?

I need to see the stress distribution results inside the core of the object.(see images 1,2 and 3)

Short answer is no, Inventor doesn't have the result viewing capabilities of Fusion.

Is there at least a way to have a section view(to view the inner stresses)
in case having the colour bar handles is not an option.

Colour bar handles are a convenience but being able to view the internal
stresses is a necessity.

I don't get it, how come inventor only shows the stresses on the surface of
the wireframe model!!

Am i missing something??

What do i need to change in order to see the stresses inside the solid??

Same answer as above I'm afraid - you're not missing anything, it doesn't show results through section planes.

Inventor is sadly lacking in its ability to analyse and view FEA results.

Hi! We are aware of the deficiency. Have you tried Autodesk NASTRAN In-CAD? I believe there are more controls on the result. Would it be a good solution?

Isn't the NASTRAN solver built into Fusion 360? 

Why doesn't Inventor (Professional?) have this functionality built-in rather than as add-in?

Hi JD,

I am not familiar with F360 so I cannot comment if it uses NASTRAN to what extent. For Inventor, the FEA solver is based on the solver from Plasso Tech acquisition back in 2007.

The solver may not be as well-known as NASTRAN and others. But, it is built for performance. Also,it can handle assembly level FEA with ease and it is multi-threaded enabled. Inventor does use NASTRAN solver for Shape Generator.

It may seem a bit strange that different solvers are used for different workflows. Choosing a solver is a multi-faceted decision. The different solvers serve different purposes at different situations. As you know well, the team keeps looking at the opportunity to improve.

I agree that inventor's solver is much more optimised for multi thread handling. Fusion 360 is really bad at using all the cores on my CPU. It uses only one core most of the time.

As JDmather already pointed out, nastran in cad is an extra expense for people using inventor.

Sometimes it's just not justifiable investing so much for pretty much incremental improvements in the solver's capabilities and to add to it, nastran in cad isn't an integrated FEA **** CFD package.

Why can't I just have the option to view the results whichever way i want??
Saves money (maybe not for autodesk which is probably why you haven't implemented it in the first place) amd time and the hassle of switching environments.

Please add this functionality as early as possible.

It's not just me asking for this, Rory_M has already posted the same thing in another post and he got about 50 votes on that idea.(I searched but wasn't able to find that post before posting mine).

If fusion 360 had an option for constraints and joints, instead of just relying on joints, i would have stuck with fusion 360 despite it's many limitations.
