Strange Fillet Tangent Generation

Hi Everyone,

I just noticed this strangeness. Can anyone explain the weirdness with the way the tangent line is being generated?

Attached are some example 2017 files. Note that I could reproduce this in 2015, on a different machine, also (didn't try in 2016).

@johnsonshiue do you happen to know if this is an known issue?

Thanks,

Curtis

I was thinking I saw this before but I don't remember if there was a solution or not.  I will dig through some old notes..  Perhaps its your highlighting skills that's causing it..  Smiley Very Happy   But I have to say much better this time.  Smiley Wink

Thanks Mark!

While you're digging, you don't happen to know if there is an Idea post for being able to create a dimension between a line and a tangent of an ellipse as shown in this image do you? I searched but didn't come up with anything.

This dimension currently requires a "helper sketch"

Tangent Elipse.PNG

As for my highlighting skills, I've been staying up late and practicing with my box of crayons to get better at this. I've got a nice coloring of a goose riding a motorcycle on the fridge now, and I only went out of the lines 43 times, so that's a big improvement. Smiley Wink

I hope this helps.

Accepted solution

Hi Curtis,

This is a bug. The fillet edges are not properly represented in the drawing. The workaround is to change the fillet type from Tangent Fillet to Smooth G2 Fillet. I will report it as a defect and work with project team to resolve it.

Many thanks!

To avoid the helper sketch.. Right mouse click on the dimension in the left view, select move dimension and select your right view.

That would be great suggestion... had I not already tried it and it didn't work. Smiley Tongue

It kicked back "no compatible connection point" or something along those lines.

Did you get the move to work?

I hope this helps.

Yes it worked.  I deleted the dimension and did the same workflow and it failed like you said.  So I said to myself what did I do the first time.

Then I realized I was being lazy...  I was going to say something about highlighting skills but...  Smiley Very Happy

It works when you pick your dimension points like this..

2-24-2017 5-50-51 PM.jpg  So yeah that's not really a viable solution..  Sorry my bad..  Smiley Sad

ah ha!

Well, creating the extra view, and then selecting the mid-point of the line, and then moving the dimension, is what I will now call: "Lancastering it". Smiley Tongue

I created the idea to request that it be made a bit more discoverable:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/select-tangnet-dimension-for-elipse/idi-p/6902697

Thanks again,

Curtis

Gee I thought it was an honor to have towns and cities bearing my name..  But now I have an Inventor workflow bearing my name.

How can I top that..  This is such a great honor..   I never thought I would live to see this and if I did....  I told myself I'm not going to cry..  Smiley Embarassed

I want to thank everyone..  There's just too many names to thank and I don't want to miss anyone...  Smiley Very Happy
