Stop auto rotate view when creating sketch

When creating a new sketch, Inventor will automatically turn on the visibility of the origin workplanes and rotate the view orientation to this:

This is annoying, I like the workplane visibility to turn on but I don't want it to rotate, is there any way I can stop this?

Is there a fix for the problem now or coming in the near future? Literally cannot start a sketch in a bigger assembly because it zooms out to oblivion. The depth you can zoom back into is also limited in perspective mode.

In the settings you will find the positions for enabling/disabling view rotation during sketching.

Hi Gregor,

The only "fix" I am aware of to suppress this auto-rotate behavior on creating a sketch without a visible planar reference is to enable at least one planar reference. Open the ipt and iam template file that you use regularly. Make origin planes visible -> Save.

After that, I believe the view will no longer rotate on creating a new sketch.

I'm in full agreement with the original post.  This is ridiculous that they can't accommodate this.  I'll try to summarized what I have, and what I think is needed: (and I think is what the original post was asking for as well).

I always consider the 'ground' plane to be the X-Y plane.  For some reason, Inventor seems to come defaulted to the X-Z (or something).  I changed all of my templates so that the default view when starting a new part of assembly is oriented so that the Axes triad has X to the right, Y towards the back, and Z up.  A CNC machine is generally set up this way (X positive to right).   The, I oriented the view cube the same way (Top view shows as X-positive to right, Y-positive 'up').  Right-clicking on the View cube and choosing 'Options' allows you to set 'Default ViewCube Orientation' any way you want . .  . "XY(+Z)" for me.

What is frustrating is that when I start a new part with my templates, the blank part/assembly comes up in a nice isometric with my preferred home orientation as described.  But, then when I select "New 2D Sketch" Inventor automatically rotates to what it thinks the default orientation should be, so I need to click 'Home' every time.

Others described well the option to automatically start a new sketch on a particular defined plane, but that's not what we want.  There should be an option (or it should just be default/baked-in behavior) that Inventor rotates to user's selected default View Cube orientation on New Sketch . . . .or, just doesn't change orientation at all. 

Can we have this please??!

Hi! Unfortunately, the status quo persists. Please take a look at message #47 (right before your reply). There is a way to stop the automatic Y-up isometric view on creating the first sketch.

I never use that command.  Since IV5.

Go to Browser, Origin.  Right click the plane, new sketch.  This work on any plane in browser.

Everything stay where they're, no zoom, no rotate.

Yes, as you say ... "unfortunate".  I appreciate you pointing this out, but this is at best a workaround and I really don't like having the origin planes visible.

Is it rally that hard to turn that function off in the coding?

That is indeed an unfortunate workaround.  I don't want to have the origin planes visible.

A useful improvement would be an option to disable automatic view rotation while creating sketches. Keeping the camera fixed helps maintain orientation, improves precision, and prevents accidental perspective changes, especially when working on detailed designs or complex geometry.

The planes don't need to be visible.  Right click it in the browser.
