Special symbols in Part List

Ok, I give up.

Trying to enter a DIAMETER symbol into the part list. Such a simple thing to do, such an unexpected difficulty..

The character map does not work, since for some reason the diameter symbol is interpreted as "small Latin n" and when I paste it into the part list it appears as "n".

Any thoughts?

I am clearly doing something wrong, it just cannot be that complicated.

Quick update:

There is another combination I found, which produces the right symbol but wrong size.. Obviously, there is no way to control the size of a particular character in the part list?

What if I need to enter another symbol, such as angle, plus/minus, etc? How do I make sure that the symbol will appear exactly the same way on every computer this drawing is viewed on? The character map wouldn't work in this case, please correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you, but this is an "empty set", not a diameter. The reason I note the difference is because there is a diameter symbol on the drawing itself, as a part of the dimension, and this is a visually different symbol.

Then fond the same font in the character map then look for the diameter symbol.  They will be the same.

You did not state this in your OP that they had to be identical.

Hmm, then i don't know...
Most of the times that this issue came up in the past was because the "AIGDT" font wasn't installed properly, so if you have that available then i can't say why you're getting an "n" instead.

@-niels-  is correct: the diameter symbol used in hole notes is in the AIGDT font, and it uses the ASCII code that is used for 'n' in most other fonts.  If you want that symbol, you'll have to use AIGDT as the font; if you want your regular text font, you'll have to put up with the difference in appearance.

For what it's worth, the dimension edit box shows both the current font Alt-0216 symbol and the AIGDT diameter symbol (not sure what version of Inventor this came from); the gray symbols at the top are the current font, the ones below are AIGDT:

How did you get to this box? I get this Edit Dimension box only for well.. dimensions. I don't see this in the Parts List edit box:

Also how do you change the font for the Parts List?

Part List font is set in the Part List style, which incorporates three text styles for Title, Headings, and Data.  The font is actually defined in the selected text style.  But the whole table uses the same font, so you can't select a different one for a specific character.  I think in your place I'd look at replacing the AIGDT diameter symbol with the standard font one in your dimension styles.

Re-installed the AIGDT font, still get an "n" through the Character Map.

@0x3FA5 I will escalate your second question to support as well and do my best to help you with it. As for your first question, since you are coming from a third party software you might want to familiarize yourself with how styles and standards work within Inventor as they aren't necessarily the same. I found the Neil Cross tutorial video to be very helpful.

That being said, you will need to create a custom style that reflects the font that you are attempting to use.

In the image above you can see how to access these standards and where the defaults are set. If you click the pencil icon next to Data, you can edit what will be filled within the Parts List. Just make sure they are set as object defaults and you might want to make a template.

Above you can see the text formatting, and this is where you will change the font like @SBix26 was explaining.
