Hi everyone.

Today we have updated from inventor 2017.4 to inventor 2018.01. In One machine in the office inventor goes too slow when placing constraints or draging parts. While in inventor 2017 all works nomal.

My inventor also works normal and we have same configuration!

PC1 (slow) :

Windows 10 pro

GTX 950 Ti

32 GB RAM

SSD

Assembly with 1300 Parts

My PC:

Windows 7 pro

GTX 750 Ti

16 GB RAM

SSD

Make sure all available updates are applied to Windows and update the graphics card drivers.

Where are you seeing the lag / slow performance?

Hi Latrach,

The behavior does not make sense. It contradicts to our internal testing result. You may want to try a few things.

1) Go to %temp% and delete all files if possible.

2) Update the graphics driver.

3) Does the machine have an integrated graphics card? If yes, could you disable it and make sure Inventor use the dedicated graphics card?

4) Is it dataset specific? Meaning the poor performance can be reproduced using the same files on a different machine?

5) Try unplugging network and disabling add-ins.

Many thanks!

Hi.

Thanks all for your reply.

Finally we found the origin of the problem.

The assembly has some derived parts downloaded from supplier webpage. These parts has a link with the assembly from which was derived, that we dont have. The problem desapeared when we have broken the link.

Hi

You still have to ask yourself why it worked on ver 2017  and not in ver 2018 ?

Hi Latrach,

It is indeed a good question, which I am interested too. It is possible the dataset was not migrated to 2018. As a result, certain functions in assembly level try to find the geometry and the source repeatedly. It could contribute to slow down. If possible, I would like to see the files and try to reproduce the behavior. There might be issues worth investigating further.

Many thanks!

Hi.
One of things we have done is migrating all parts of the assembly individually, which increased a little bit the performance, but the problem disappeared when we have broken the links.

I attached the part and its old version (before migrating)

Thanks

Hi Latrach,

Many thanks for sharing the files! But, I cannot seem to reproduce the performance issue. Do you have a workflow showing the performance issue?

Thanks again!
