Sketch - Valid Loops - Highlight - 2026, 2025

In previous versions, sketches containing multiple closed loops were visually easier to interpret. Features such as Extrude or Revolve would highlight each loop in a distinct colour. Under the Millennium colour scheme, for example, constrained geometry appeared in black, unconstrained geometry in bright green, and fully closed profiles in a khaki-green tone.

Recently, this behaviour no longer seems to function correctly. Although a loop will highlight when hovered over, the underlying sketch geometry remains unchanged in colour. As a result, users must manually hover over each potential loop to determine which profiles are valid.

Under Application Options > Display, the setting ‘Enable Smooth Sketch Lines’ affects loop highlighting behaviour.

  • When enabled: loop highlighting becomes extremely faint — almost imperceptible.

  • When disabled: loop highlighting appears clearly in green, as expected.

This naturally raises the question for Autodesk: could the loop highlight be made more visible when Smooth Sketch Lines is switched on?

Hi Matt,

I will need to work with the project team to understand the request better. Regardless, it will be an enhancement request.

Many thanks!

Hi Matt,

The project team has confirmed that this is a known issue, INVGEN-83337. It has not been resolved yet. In the meantime, you may want to disable the following option.

Tools -> App Options -> Display -> uncheck "Enable Smooth Sketch Display"

Many thanks!
