Shell problem

I've been trying recently to shell into my part for autodesk inventor for a project, but for some reason, the shell does not work on the top of the block there, and it doesn't work anywhere else. Any help would be appreciated.

Much easier to figure out if you share your file here.  However, you need to know that Shell works on the entire solid body-- there is no means to limit the Shell feature to just the "block" section of the model, it will try to do all of it.  If it can't, then it fails.

There are several solutions:

  1. Make the shell earlier in the modeling process so it works just on the geometry you intend it to
  2. Make the target geometry a separate solid body (New Solid), then combine after the Shell operation
  3. Use Extrude or other tools instead of Shell

But the easiest way for someone here to help is to attach your model and let us know what version of Inventor you are using.

You are trying to shell all body but if anywhere thickness < 0.1 inch , shell doesn't works. You should seperate your bodies , for example your top rectangle extruded body of your part , if you just want to shell it , extrude it as new body , then you can shell that seperate body and you can combine them as single body.
